I am a veterinarian and obtained my PhD in veterinary sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Immunology and Vaccinology, University of Liège, Belgium. I am currently Associate Scientist at the Peruvian Centre for Cetacean Research (CEPEC) and founder member of PRO DELPHINUS. I am also a member of the IUCN/SSC Cetacean Specialist Group (Switzerland) and Associate Editor of the Latin Journal of Aquatic Mammals, Brazil

My work at PRO DELPHINUS and CEPEC aims at developing the interest and respect of children from the fisherman communities for cetaceans, turtles, penguins and other aquatic wildlife, as well as to involve them in the conservation of the marine fauna. To this purpose and in collaboration with other members of PRO DELPHINUS and CEPEC, I gave environmental classes in schools, wrote booklets and pamphlets, helped to organize creative ‘marine’ workshops and gave guided visits to the ‘Museo de Delfines’ in Pucusana.

I also study the infectious agents (viruses and bacteria) that circulate in small cetaceans worldwide, investigate their epidemiology and examine their capacity to negatively affect the growth of these populations. Besides, I am exploring organic diseases of cetaceans to improve our knowledge of the pathological factors that may influence modal health, reproduction, net recruitment and population size. I have also been closely involved in the monitoring of small cetacean and sea turtle fisheries in Peru as well as in the in the collection of data on the natural history of cetaceans
